Maumoon 2008 Campaign Holds Pick-Up Truck Parade in Male


MALE, Maldives — The Maumoon 2008 Campaign has held a pick-up truck parade to celebrate Dhivehi Raiyyithunge Party (DRP) Presidential candidate incumbent President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s achievements in the first round of elections today.

The parade began at 1600hrs from a point near the Tsunami Monument in the Henveiru ward of Male and made a circuit through the main streets of Male. The parade passed through Majeedhee Street, Chaandhanee Street, Orchid Street and Bodu Thakurufaanu Street.

The trucks made a stop near Theemuge (the Presidential residence) where the President met with all who took part in the parade.

The parade consisted of more than 33 trucks which transported more than 3000 DRP supporters around Male. Additional supporters were unable to take part in the parade due to the trucks’ limited carrying capacity
